Constancy and will open promising future doors for Lincoln student

Wanting, working every day and without stopping... this may sound tedious, but nothing is easy for those who are after great goals. These were the keys that allowed Luis Diego Montero, a 9th grade Lincoln student, to get a scholarship at the renowned Interlochen Arts Academy in Michigan, United States.

 There he will finish high school and look opportunities for a college in the area. Luis Diego explained that Lenin Izaguirre, his teacher at the National Music Institute, told him about the possibility of joining the Interlochen academy, so they both established a work plan that, with family support, managed it with success. 

“I know that this is an opportunity for a few people (…) I take it with great enthusiasm, I want to get there because it is another world. Also, I take it responsibly because I am not only carrying my image but also for the people who have helped me along the way, the institutions of which I have been a part”, he commented. 

For two years, this talented musician was part of the Lincoln community. An unexpected beginning as Trojan happened when just a few weeks after entering Lincoln School, the pandemic completely changed the educational model. Luis Diego recalled his collaborations in the school band and thanked professor Elías Arias and the VPA Director, Vicente Luna, for encourage him to participate in artistic projects that reinforced his musical knowledge.

During childhood, Luis Diego was related to music by his parents. His career as a musician began in Guápiles, where he entered the National Education Musical System (Sinem). Back then he saw himself as a violinist, however, he changed his mind when he was introduced to the clarinet.

Luis Diego shared an inspiring message to the Lincoln community, work and visualizing goals from a realistic perspective are recommendations that this artist leaves us before traveling to the United States.

A few weeks before starting this adventure, he claims to face a mix of feelings and leaves the country with nostalgia, but he is reassured to have communication facilities with family and friends to feel accompanied during his trip.
