Food truck + poke: Trojans win international competition with creative proposal

Food truck + poke: Trojans win international competition with creative proposal

Our Class of 2023 students Alyssa Robert, Gloria Garita, María José Chacón, Regina Fuentes, and Stella Kissling won the Explore IU international business competition by Indiana University.

Around 15 schools from Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, and other countries participated in this contest. Lincoln School was the only Costa Rican representative. Our students created and designed a business model, applied to a food truck, that was sustainable in environmental, financial and marketing fields.

They received training from Indiana University in marketing and finance, also mentoring to guide them in the development of the project. The business idea is based in poke, a nutritious and healthy food offer for the American population.

In addition, they added renewable energies usage through solar panels in the food truck. In their marketing plan, they identified social networks as an ally to popularize their proposal, through giveaways with potential customers.

The poke idea was also developed by other participating groups; however, our students made the most feasible and best structured proposal, which is why they won the contest.

Although they initially had difficulty understanding what the competition was about, they managed to organize time and team work to develop their idea in two weeks and won the international competition.
