Green Binder Project: an idea to provide with school supplies girls at social risk

Green Binder Project: an idea to provide with school supplies girls at social risk

Pages and lines of notebooks, pencils and erasers, as well as textbooks are now a memory. After the pandemic, we used iPads as main learning tool, but Casa Main Costa Rica girls still require these school materials to continue studying.

These minors at social risk lack the necessary supplies for their lessons, so our 10th grade Trojans: Elena Cabrera, Luna Peral and Emma Yick created a project that aims to collect donations and give academic opportunities to 30 girls who live in this shelter .

The Green Binder Project initiative seeks to collect school materials that Lincoln School students stopped using and are still in good condition, to donate them to girls between the ages of 2 and 12 at Casa Main. This idea is part of the CAS community service projects.

“We are very clear about the importance of donating, since this is for a group of girls who do not have the resources they need to study. They depend on these donations. We have a reward for the person who donates the most, ”said Elena.

For Emma, the goal is that Lincoln students - by being privileged - help those who need it most. This Trojan reflected on the economic difficulties that a large part of the Costa Rican population is going through, for this reason it urges that we join together to contribute and turn our look towards these people in vulnerable conditions.

As part of the items Casa Main girls need, there are:

  • Portfolios
  • Notebooks
  • Folders
  • Pencils
  • Erasers
  • Markers
  • Colored pencils
  • Papers

Want to donate? ... There is a reward!

To deliver your donation, there are red boxes distributed in strategic places on campus. One is located at the reception, another in the Kiss and Drop and the last one at the bus stop. It is important to identify your donation with an adhesive paper (post-it type), please include name and phone number to be contacted by the organizers.

To participate it is not necessary to give money or buy supplies, unless you wish, but the intention is to bring what you already have at home. "The materials that were left over from previous years of school... something that you already have and do not use," said Elena.

The organizers will count the amount of donations per person and give the prize to whoever has made most donations. The reward will be a food delivery through Glovo, the dish will be chosen by the winning person.
