During her childhood and adolescence, Valeria faced an obstacle that prevented her from interacting with peers ... shyness. In a decisive moment, she had the courage to face and overcome the inhibitions of her conscience.
She recently shared her personal and professional growth story with hundreds of people through TEDx Grecia “Voices of Change”. By participating in this forum, Valeria had the intention to spread the word of a useful message for those who felt identified and provide them with tools to change their lives.
“It was a challenge to tell my story. It has been nice because people get different messages from what I said," she explained.
Each case is different
With 15 years of working as a counselor with Lincoln School Preschool and Elementary students, she has taken care of children with various introversion levels. However, it is important to clarify that shyness is not a factor that affects everyone the same way.
For some people, it is part of their personality, and this does not prevent them from achieving their goals or simply feeling good about themselves.
“I recommend respecting the minors' personalities, not forcing them to do activities that children do not want. Each case is different and there are children who enjoy an individual game, just as there are others who need guidance for the collective game,” Urcuyo explained.
She suggests that parents should maintain constant communication with their children to identify if the minor expresses any disagreement with this characteristic of their personality.
