For two weeks, students from Lincoln School and 8 other public and private schools interacted in a unique entrepreneurial learning environment in our country.
Ingenious Lab Summer Camp’s first edition brought together 22 students who received Babson College’s EPIC program training (Entrepreneurship Program for Innovators and Change Makers). Babson is the world's leading university in entrepreneurial education.
This educational program is first of its kind in Costa Rica, and allowed students to visit universities and innovation centers to foster analytical skils and teamwork necessary to create entrepreneurial projects. The students visited Véritas, Texas Tech and GS1 Costa Rica.
After learning about ideation, finance, prototype design, and entrepreneurship, the students showcased four projects to a panel of business and corporate specialists to receive feedback on their initiative.
The projects created by the students are:
- CH: A brand and line of products that tells a story, with the purpose of creating awareness about the impact of mental health problems in young adults.
- Rescue Paws: an initiative willing to help homeless dogs and give them the treatment they deserve, raising funds through “Spoil me” brand and collaborating with other organizations.
- Orbulum: A finance-based website that promotes sharing experts through programs, videos, articles, etc., to educate people on finance topics.
- Doggo: A project that has an innovative idea of a smart collar for dogs where the pet can be located using GPS. It also brings other modules such as a camera, and a heart monitor. All this can be seen through an app specially designed for the necklace.
Ingenious Lab's proposal caught local media interest, and was featured more than 20 times on tv, digital newspapers, and social media.
Students share their experience
Karina Khnor, a Lincoln School student, and Juan Naranjo, a Colegio La Salle student, shared their experience after completing the Ingenious Lab course. Both agree that its methodology will be a great help in developing their projects in the medium term.
They also highlight the importance of learning about teamwork, finances, time management, and developing strategies to meet program requirements.
Eight students in the group received scholarships from Lincoln School and Babson Alumni to participate in this program. The 22 students came from institutions such as the Lincoln School, the British School, CEDES Don Bosco, Castella Conservatory, Reina de los Ángeles Scientific College, Kamuk School, La Salle, Saint Francis, and SEK International.
The next edition of Ingenious Lab Summer Camp will take place in July. We expect a great participation of students in grades 9 to 12.
