Updrop: A Lincoln students’ project won 1st place in the National Robotics Olympiad

  • “Updrop” an air delivery project aims to reduce CO2 emissions from a growing industry.

  • Students will represent the country in the World Robot Olympiad.

An innovative idea developed by Lincoln School students that aims to completely change the operation of delivery services obtained the highest recognition at the National Robotics Olympiad.

Mark Music (16) and Filippo Fonseca (15), created a project called “Updrop”, which consists of using drones to deliver food or medicines, to minimize the negative impact caused on the environment by vehicles that use fossil fuels.

The G10 students developed an app and used a 3D printer to create a container that stores electronic components and has space to transport packages through the air.

For our students, receiving this prize is a reward for the countless hours they have dedicated to the project, and the sacrifices they made to achieve their goal.

“This is the result of an eight-month effort, which says a lot about the hard work we did. We had to work, not sleep, and I feel like winning first place reflects all the time invested,” said Mark.

“The most important thing about this is to understand that the process is the most relevant and not the result. Focus on how I am going step by step to reach the final goal," mentioned Filippo.

Joint effort

The initiative had the logistical and technological support of Lincoln School and Universidad Fidélitas.

“Obtaining this national award demonstrates the benefits of an educational model that has entrepreneurship and technology at its core. It is the result of all the hard work of teachers, our curriculum, and our school’s effort in terms of entrepreneurship,” said Sara Estrada, Lincoln’s Innovation and Transformation Director.

On the other hand, Santiago Fernández, CEO of Universidad Fidélitas, recognized that the joint work between Lincoln and Fidélitas students was a learning process for both parties that allowed the project to be led to a successful final stage.

Alejandra Sánchez, a representative of the STEAM Foundation, explained that Mark and Filippo will represent our country in the World Robotics Olympiad to be held virtually on the last week of November.

The National Robotics Olympiad is organized by the STEAM foundation in partnership with the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Science and Technology. This year it was sponsored by Banco Nacional.
